Mrs Roberts is a corrupt officer who works as the Deputy Governor at Barnhurst prison, who turns a blind eye to the women there smuggling in hallucinogenic mushrooms, as it keeps them quiet and she admits that the entire prison staff know about it and that they realise it would be a waste of time trying to stop it. It isn't known if Mrs Roberts still worked at Barnhurst when Vera became the governor, but it is mentioned after the fire the deputy governor said Bea had died trying to save other prisoners and Vera had been injured whether or not the deputy governor was Mrs Roberts is not known.
Trivia[]
- Gerda Nicolson manages to keep up a very harsh "accent" to give an edge to the character, though in hindsight it's hard for her not to look a bit unconvincing as a "nasty" officer after so many years as Ann Reynolds.
