A new arrival to Wentworth for season two, Maxine is a transgender woman who, despite having undergone gender reassignment surgery and wearing a wig and make-up, looks unambiguously male, often experiencing transmisogyny by inmates and officers. Her name was Max before she transitioned.
Having lived for many years as a gay man, Maxine was determined to begin her transition to be a female. At the age of 39 and after many months of psychological counselling, Maxine began her hormonal therapy then 18 months later having formed a relationship with Gary, she made the decision to undergo reassignment surgery.
Maxine’s height and powerful physical build doesn't go unnoticed to Franky who wants Maxine on her crew. Maxine wants nothing to do with Franky, or in fact, anyone. However keeping a low profile at Wentworth is near impossible. She saved Bea's life by punching the person that tried to kill Bea.Maxine tries to help Bea bring a shiv in. Bea gives Maxine a beanie after she has her wig confiscated after attempting to escape the prison.
Maxine is Bea's main offsider as top dog, acting as her hench as well as a friend and moral support. She is nuturing towards other inmates, including Bea and Boomer.
Maxine had Breast Cancer and had surgery and her breasts cut off.
Maxine was transferred to Barnhurst to be closer to the hospital.
