Ivan Ferguson is the father of Wentworth Correctional Centre governor Joan Ferguson and is a fencing master. Ivan serves as part of Ferguson's fencing sessions but during her downfall it is revealed that he is not actually there.

Ivan teaches Ferguson fencing tips on parry and attack
Ferguson is in a fencing session as she wins against her opponent as the fencing master says that while it is good she needs to chose the right time to prepare her attack and then learn to parry and attack when the moment is right.
S2 ep 7[]
Ferguson is practicing a fencing session as her opponent gains the upper hand and gets her, out of frustration she walks away as the Fencing Master says that her hesitation cost her and she lacked the ability to follow through, Ferguson says that her opponent lost his balance and he says that it made him vulnerable and asks why she stopped, Ferguson says that it was the sporting thing to do as he says it was the weak thing to do and the time to have struck was when he was on his knees and says a smart person would rise up in the opportunity and says that she must be ruthless.
At home Vera walks to see her mother lying in bed, as Ferguson begins a fencing session, Vera opens the fridge to where she pulls out the cocktail of pain medication, Vera walks to her mothers bedside as Ferguson is winning her fencing session, Vera then begins to administer a fatal dose of morphine as Ferguson gains the upper hand during her fencing and wins,
Season 8[]
It is revealed in Season 8, that Ivan is the one who murdered Joan's mother.
Joan had revealed he drowned her in a bathtub while a young Joan watched on and is the reason Joan is the way she is, Ivan made Joan fear him into taking up fencing and repressing the memory until Joan/Kath's second imprisonment..
