"I just came here to work out."

Franky Doyle was a former inmate of Wentworth Correctional Centre.

Franky before she was sent to Wentworth was a star on a cooking show that was helmed by Mike Pennisi, when his insults set her off and she threw a burning pan of oil at him disfiguring him and earning Franky seven years.

Franky starts a rivalry for top dog a position she fights for and wins while Bea is in the slot after the murder of Jacs Holt in which Jacs was set up by Liz to cover up the fact Franky had stabbed Meg accidentally.

Franky starts her fight for her freedom when she gets her parole but is haunted by her past, she beings her parole working at a law firm as a legal aid. Franky is arrested for Mike's murder and sent back to Wentworth with the possiblity of a life sentence hanging over her head Franky decides to escape from Wentworth to clear her name. Franky runs to Iman Farah's flat and eventually to the lockup shed.

Franky ends her time at Wentworth being released from prison with all her charges dropped, becoming a legal aid and still with her partner Bridget Westfall.

Time At Wentworth[]

Franky Doyle is serving a 7 year sentence at Wentworth and is the Top Dog at Wentworth at the start of Episode 1. The "return" of Jacs Holt threatens this however, as Jacs and Franky are involved in a rivalry for the top dog position.

We first meet Franky when Bea Smith arrives and is shown to her cell. Franky is having sex with Kim Chang in there and afterwards, comes out to talk to Bea. She immediately sees an opportunity in Bea -- one of Franky's drug smuggling plans fails, and she coerces Bea to smuggle in drugs for her.  Franky holds up the line for the phones and implies she can keep doing so, in order to stop Bea from seeing Debbie.

Franky receives a lot of fan mail at Wentworth, in part due to the nature of her crime. She was a participant on a Reality TV show about underprivileged youth being given the chance to learn to cook, and she violently attacked the host after he verbally abused her on camera, burning him with hot oil. The incident however garnered nearly 100 million views on Popview, a video sharing website.

From a young age, Franky had a hard upbringing. Her father left when she was ten, unable to cope with his wife's drinking and drug problems. He left Franky with her mother, reasoning that a mother wouldn't hurt her own child.

It is revealed in the season 1 finale that Franky killed Meg during the riot. The murder was accidental as Franky thought Jacs had grabbed her from behind so stabbed the person in defence. To her shock, it was in fact Meg she stabbed and not Jacs.

Franky also appears to have a soft spot for the Governor Erica Davidson as both people often flirt and exchange long lingering looks between one another throughout season 1 as a result in episode 10 they engage in a forceful kiss which both passionately enjoy.

Season 2[]

After Bea is released from solitary confinement at the beginning of season 2, Franky orders Boomer to attack Bea to display dominance as the new top dog since Jacs Holt's death. This causes friction between Franky and Bea.

Franky is being monitored by The Governor, who knows Franky is responsible for the smuggling of contraband into the prison. Franky takes advantage of the garden project, organizing a male inmate from Walford prison to import drugs in return for oral sex from Boomer. The inmate informs Franky of a new product called "Pink Dragon", which he adds will "cost her". Franky and the inmate meet in the garden shed, where the drugs are located. The male inmate implies she will have to perform sexual favours for him in order to earn the drugs. As he tries to rape her, Franky grabs a garden fork and stabs the man in the genitals. His screams alert the guards of the situation. Liz informs The Governor of the whereabouts of the missing drugs, which results in Boomer being sentenced to seven additional years in Wentworth when the drugs are discovered in her cell.

The identity of the lagger is unknown to Franky, who becomes paranoid, originally accusing Doreen and later attempting to strangle Bea before Liz confesses. Franky and Liz have an emotional discussion, in which Franky admits that Liz is the only one to ever care about her. Before leaving H Block, Franky warns Liz not to come back to Wentworth.

Franky sees an opportunity in Maxine, trying to hire her as a henchman. When The Governor cuts off Maxine's hormone treatment, she seeks out Franky to smuggle the drugs for her, and in return becomes a part of her crew. Franky orders Maxine to attack Bea, who Franky suspects is working with The Governor and conspiring against her.

Boomer informs Franky that she is planning an attack on Liz on the outside, to which Bea interferes and gets Boomer locked up for an attempted attack, to which Bea remarks that she and Franky are going down.

After Boomer is slotted, Franky confronts Bea in the cafeteria, who admits she is planning to take over as top dog. Franky finds out that Maxine is working with Bea, passing on information and smuggled in a shiv. Franky seizes the shiv, prompting Bea to sneak into the mail room to steal a Stanley knife and tape.

S2 ep 11[]

Bea walks over and Franky lets Bea sit next to her and Bea wonders if she is getting a seat at the big table, and Franky says that Boomer is not using it and tells Bea that she heard why Boomer got slotted and Franky tells Bea that Boomer was dealing with Liz and shouldn't of interfered and asks her why she snapped, Bea tells the story and says that she really needed the phone and Franky says if Bea wants to take her while Boomer is in the slot she can, Bea says that she doesn't want anything and she tells Franky that it is all in her head, as she moves to another table, as Ferguson watches on from the Governor's office.

Franky and Sky go to Bea's unit and they both see Jess and Franky asks Jess if she knows what Bea is up to, and Sky says is Bea planning something against Franky and Jess says that she doesn't know anything and Franky says if she does and doesn't tell her that she will take a knife to her face and then tries to dance with her, Maxine comes out of her cell as Franky says that her boobs have gotten bigger and Maxine claps back saying Franky's haven't, Franky laughs and Franky and Sky leave.

In the laundry Bea looks around and then looks at Franky, Doreen gives Bea a bunch of laundry as Bea tells Maxine that she is going to need the shiv. Franky calls Bea over to bring over more laundry, Franky tells Bea to hang around for a minute the women watch on as Franky tells Bea that Ferguson is using her to get to Franky and Franky says that the screws using the women can be common but the Governor using someone is something else. Franky then tells Bea that she had nothing to do with Simmo Slater's death because she never even had a chance to cut the drugs. Franky tells Bea that is was Ferguson who gave Simmo a hot shot and she doesn't know why but she wants Bea to know. As Bea turns to walk away Vera walks in and tells Bea that the governor wants to see her, Franky says that she rests her case and then says to send her an invite, Bea says will do and Vera tells everyone to get back to work.

In the laundry Sky is talking to Jess and says that she bets that she still has Fletch's "Wankerchief" and Jess says no and that she gave it back to him. Sky then says she has seen the way Fletch looks at her and she bets that every time he goes home and masturbates to her, and then makes noises to go with it, as Franky calls out and sees that Boomer has been released from the slot, Sky then asks when did she get out and Boomer says she reckons the governor took pity on herm as Bea realises that this could ruin her plan. Boomer walks over to Franky as Franky says to Bea what is she going to do now that Boomer is out of the slot.

In the laundry Boomer is talking with Franky and says that Bea is acting like nothing has ever happened. As they both watch Maxine walk over to Bea with the laundry Maxine tells Bea that the shiv is in the the garden boxes, as Boomer says that she is waiting for her turn but she wants revenge, Franky tells her to remember the rules and it can only be her and Bea who fight. As Linda tells the women that they can go to lunch, Franky goes over to Sky and tells her that she has a job for her, Bea watches on as her plan unravels.

Bea in the yard goes to the flowers and realises that her shiv is missing, as she looks to see where it went she sees Sky Pierson holding it and she lips to Bea 'fuck you'. Bea rushes inside and is caught up by Franky and Sky with Boomer following in from behind, and Franky asks Bea what is going on. Sky then adds that Franky had Maxine suss from the start and she hands Franky the shiv, Franky tells Bea that she could've gotten her a shiv and Franky holds it to Bea and Boomer asks her if she was going to stick the shiv in Franky and says that she is fucked. Franky tells Bea if she wants to talk to come and do it, Bea says that she doesn't think so, Sky points out screws as Vera and Will are coming there way, Franky tells Bea that she will see her after lunch. Franky turns and puts her arm around Bea when Will and Vera ask if everything is ok, they say everything is and Bea moves away before leaving and Franky says that she will see her later, Will and Vera look at each other and knows that something is going on. Bea stands in the corridor with her plan out the window she spots Fletch using his swipe card and Bea hatches a plan to get it.

In the laundry the women are there doing the laundry as Bea looks at Franky, and Boomer gives Franky a hint on how to get rid of the officer on duty and Boomer walks over to the chemical cupboard and tries to open it, but can't. Boomer asks Chris Bakula if he can open it, he walks over and he tries to open it but his key doesn't fit, he walks away and he says as he is leaving the room 'no fighting' while he is gone, and when he leaves the door is closed by the inmates, who then spray the cameras.

Franky after the shiv fight

Franky calls the fight and tells the women Bea won

Bea tries to get her cutter out as Sky gives Franky her shiv. Franky then hits Bea with a shot to the stomach but it doesn't hurt her, Bea elbows Franky in the face and then a knife fight breaks out in the laundry room with Bea and Franky taking swings at each other and Franky gets in trying to hit Bea with her shiv multiple times before it breaks, the women are cheering Franky on. Franky grabs hold of Bea and attacks her holding her on the laundry press until it produces steam and Bea losses her weapon. Bea fights back and gets Franky onto the floor before Franky gets to the box cutter and slashes Bea across the head, this angers Bea who then grabs Franky and drives her into the washing machine, breaking the glass before Bea starts hitting her and getting in wild shots as Boomer tries to intervene she is stopped by Maxine who tells her she can't help, Bea then tells Franky to call the fight and say who won. Franky tells the women that it is Bea's and that she won. Bea stands over Franky but instead of attacking her and finishing her off, Bea rolls up her sleeves and uses the cutter to inflict wounds on herself much to the shock of Boomer and Doreen. Bea then gingerly walks over to panic button and presses it, sliding down the wall and leaving the women stunned at what just happened.

Franky tells ferguson about bea injuries

Franky tells Ferguson that Bea inflicted her injuries on herself

Franky is about to wipe her face when an officer opens her door and Ferguson enters. Franky tells Ferguson that she needs medical attention, Ferguson then tells her she isn't dying as the officer closes the door. Ferguson asks Franky to tell her what happened, Franky then says the Bea came at her with a pair of prison issue box cutters and she sarcastically replies "I wonder where she got that from", Ferguson then says to tell her because it was her weapon and she is going to answer for it as she could go down for attempted murder unless of course Bea dies. Franky then says she has witnesses to say that the injuries were self inflicted. Franky says that Bea could've cut her throat but she didn't she used the knife to slash her wrists and Bea did it to herself, Ferguson realises that everyone has been played..

S2 ep 12[]

Ferguson after Bea's escape begins interviewing Doreen, Maxine and Franky and Ferguson tells Franky that she didn't plan escaping alone and that she had help and Franky says that she is glad to see the back of Bea but she didn't help her and Ferguson say that they are all lying. Doreen says she isn't lying and she asks Franky how long Bea had been planning her escape. Franky tells Ferguson that she is closer to Bea then she is and she asks Doreen where Bea is headed and she says that she doesn't know, Linda knocks on the door and Ferguson yells at her to get out and Ferguson tells Doreen that the last thing Bea deserves is her loyalty. Ferguson tells Franky that Bea used her and she played right into her hands, Franky says snap as Vera comes in and tells Ferguson about the call log. Ferguson tells Franky to get out as Vera tells Ferguson that they went through the audio log and found out that Bea was sending a package to Liz.

Sky and the inmates are in the yard as Sky is telling the crew that what happened is awesome and says that she believes that Bea has been planning for it ages, Boomer doesn't agree and says that Franky would've known and Sky says that Bea was too smart and would've kept it quiet. Franky tells Sky that Bea is a coward and it's why she ran, Sky then says that Bea ran and Franky tells her if she ran then where is she. As Franky notices Maxine talking with Jess, Franky tells Boomer to get a crew together to teach Maxine a lesson, Boomer says that it is not going to happen, and Franky asks what it is about and Boomer just says it wont happen because no one wants to do it, Boomer sits down as Franky realises that she has lost her power.

Franky is sitting in her cell and hears a knock at the door, it is Kim who asks if she is alright. Kim sits with Franky and says that things will return to normal soon, Franky scoffs and says what is normal in Wentworth. Kim them asks if Franky thinks Bea will get caught, Franky says that she doesn't want to hear about her anymore. Kim goes to leave as Franky stops her and tells her not to go. She flirts with Kim and says to fuck Red, and everyone else out there. As the two flirt and Franky goes to kiss Kim's stomach, Kim reveals that she is getting out and her parole has been approved and Kim asks Franky if she is happy with it, Franky acts like she is happy but says she can go back to her happy family, Kim then says that Franky will get parole one day and then the two of them can be together. Franky then tells her that she is gate-gay and should go back to her boyfriend. Kim responds to this by saying she has always been by Franky's side and things aren't always about her, Kim tells Franky things will be ok and that she will get a place and she can come and live with her, Franky says that she doesn't make plans as they always mess up, Kim leaves as Franky throws something on the floor and becomes upset.

Ferguson is in her office looking at the computer CCTV and she requests to see Franky. Ferguson asks how lunch was as Franky tells her that was a "nice move" back there and what did she bribe her with, Ferguson says that she has no idea what she means but she does have a good reason to be paranoid and says the inmates can smell blood, Ferguson also says that it was a shame that she didn't accept her original offer and Franky says "for who" "whom?" is Ferguson's response. Franky laughs as Ferguson makes another offer saying that if she sides with her that she will stamp out any of the contenders and keep her at the top. Franky cuts to the chase and says she had backed a loser and now she needs Franky's help, Ferguson replies back with that Franky also needs her help too, to stay safe and says that all she wants is for the "little abused girl" to be safe, Franky stands up and leaves as Ferguson tells her to let her know what she has decided.

Franky is sitting at the table in her unit watching TV but blankly staring into space, Boomer walks in and she sits next to her and Franky asks if they are still talking about her and Boomer tries to change the subject by offering her food and Franky says that she doesn't want it. Boomer says yes they are still talking about it and Franky asks what are they saying, Boomer says that Cindy Lou wants a crack at top dog and is getting a crew together and Boomer asks what are they gonna do, Franky says unless someone makes her an offer she doesn't know and she might have to take it.

Bea and Franky look at each other again before Bea goes back to her cell.

Will and Bea manage to push the door open and Bea grabs Franky and tells Will to leave Joan there but Will grabs her and brings her out. The place burns down with Jess inside but everybody else gets out.

Season 4[]

In season four, Franky is living with her prison psychologist Bridget Westfall and is lying to the parole board about where she's staying. They both come to the conclusion that it would be best for Franky to leave so that she doesn't get into more trouble. She gets a job as an assistant at 'Legal Relief' a small law firm. Franky visits Bea in Wentworth after Ferguson tried to drown her, Bea confesses she is now in love with a woman to Franky's amusement. Bea asks Franky to monitor Shayne (Jianna's son who Ferguson is receiving regular visits from) and she sparks up a friendship with the boy who she is helping with his case. Bea calls Franky to alert her, she goes to the court house and Shayne confronts her with the weapon only for Franky to talk him out of it. They embrace and Franky explains to Shayne that Ferguson has manipulated him as she does with everyone else.

Season 5[]

In Season 5, Franky ends up back in Wentworth being accused of Mike Pennisi's murder, The man was mad and had a wall memorial all about Franky, which his girlfriend Iman Farah didn't like, so she killed him and framed Franky. She becomes allies with Allie Novak who eventually helps her make an escape to prove her innocence. When Iman Farah comes into Wentworth as an inmate, she makes several attempts to kill Franky, before coming pretty closed then being stopped by Joan Ferguson who snaps her neck. Later on Allie's and Franky's plan goes kind of sour, when the screws come to check the boxes, Allie decides she will go and cover for Franky. Jake Stewart catches her on the way and eventually gets the truth out of her, he decides to tell Will Jackson, the three of them come up with a plan that might get rid of Joan once and for all. Jake tells Joan the only way for her stay even alive is to get out.

Franky's box gets taken in the truck like the rest and she gets off at the drop off point. She finds Bridget out of her office, confesses her love and says she will prove her innocence.

Season 6[]

At the beginning of season 6, Franky is a fugitive who hides from society and sleeps in abandoned trains. Warning photos of her and Ferguson are put in newspaper advertisements around the city.

In episode 6x01, she buys a prepaid phone card, in order not to be traced if she has to call. Later, she goes to Bridget's house and asks to be taken to Iman Farah's house, but after police follows her, she decides to go by herself. There, she takes all what can be helpful to find evidences of her innocence, although nothing very relevant seems to be found. She then understands that it is going to be difficult to prove her innocence.

In episode 6x02, a homeless tries to steal from her backpack; after rejecting him, Franky sees in some fallen papers a reference to Iman and Pennisi's psychologist Zoe Taylor; she calls her and organises an appointment under a false name. Before going to the appointment, she breaks and enters the therapist's house and sees in Iman's files that the refugee confessed Pennisi's murder. During the appointment, Doyle reveals her identity, trying to convince Taylor to help her, but actually Zoe will call the police and warn Franky about it just before the cops arrive. The escapee manages to run for a short time but then is shot in her right shoulder.

In episode 6x03, after finding a temporary shelter in a public toilet, Franky is severely hurt after the shot, and calls Bridget for help. After hiding again in an abandoned train, they figure out that the most useful evidence they can find is hidden in Iman's lock-up garage, so Bridget manages to steal the key from Wentworth archives, by cheating Vera, and to give it to Franky without being noticed by the police.

Soon after entering the garage, Doyle, still suffering for the wound, is reached by police cars and tries to lock herself in; just before police breaks in, she finds the photos of Pennisi's wall memorial.

She is then immediately arrested and wakes up in a hospital bed, with Bridget at her side; they are then approached by the detective, who states that, after finding in the garage a mobile phone with many photos of Pennisi's corpse, and after Tina Mercado testified against Ferguson regarding Iman's murder, the charges against Franky are totally dropped.

Doyle, then, comes to Wentworth as a visitor to meet her close friends Allie, Boomer and Liz, and later joins her father and half-sister in a park in a very touching moment; here, in the final scene, a kite is seen flying in the sky, symbolizing, as it had always been a constant in the previous season; Franky's freedom.

Season 7[]

In episode 9, Franky comes back to the prison for a visit, she meets up with Liz and is saddened when she doesn't remember her, but Franky tells Liz life has been busy as a legal aid and is still with Bridget. Franky then talks with Boomer and she tells Boomer that sometimes you have to let family go to be able to move from prison life.

Trivia[]

  • Curiously, along the series Franky is considered guilty of two murders she did not commit (Mike Pennisi and Iman Farah) but she remains unpunished for the one she was actually guilty of (Meg Jackson).
