"Connors!"

Ernest Craven was the evil former governor of corrupt high security prison Blackmoor and Craven is the reason its known as "The Blackhole".

Craven is shown to be highly racist towards the coloured inmates and to the social worker who came to Blackmoor after Connors' transfer. Is stabbed and killed by Lori after she suffers at his hands.

Blackmoor's Destruction[]

Seen first "welcoming" Rita to Blackmoor and warns her not to cause trouble, or die fighting at Blackmoor. He refuses to speak with Pamela Madigan and wants her girls transferred away from Blackmoor, he agrees. He watches over a fight between prisoners and Rita, but slots Rita when she wins. Transferred to Wentworth after Rita Connors had burnt down Blackmoor in a riot.

Time At Wentworth[]

Craven arrives at Wentworth after Blackmoor is in ruins after Rita's riot, and he and Joan make plans for one to receive the governorship of Wentworth, while Joan makes governor, Crave continues his reign of terror.

Craven would use racist taunts toward Sarah West and Pamela Madigan calling both of them the "N word" and this would influence Rodney Adams in which got him a slap from Joan.

His vow to kill Rita was almost taken through with but failed. At the same time he was blackmailing Lorelei Wilkinson to lag on the prisoners so he could discover what their plans were.

Rita asked Lorelei to hide the knife she attempted to kill him with but she failed to when Craven's last threat was made to blackmail her because of the alarm they used to find out when Craven was attacking Rita. She stabbed him and he staggered through the corridors until dying in front of the prisoners, Joan Ferguson and Meg Morris but he still made one more lunge for Rita.

Trivia[]

  • Meagher had previously appeared in the series as Geoff Butler and Kurt Renner.
  • Craven told Marty Jackson that he was in uniform when the hangman had a job and mentioned how those hanged would lie as they went through the trapdoor. It is possible Craven was present at the last hanging in Australia in 1967.
