Des Coulson was Joan Ferguson's next door neighbour, who complains about Joan's dog named Major . He treats his wife Carol Coulson abominably and after he hurls abuse at her some more,
Des claims he has a "back injury" when Carol tries to find work. When she doesn't find work, he verbally lashes out and presumably assaults Carol when she can't find work .
Des is stabbed in the back by Carol who has had enough of his taunts and this kills him.
